"We just became so fed up with people talking while we were
playing that we just said, 'Screw it, let's turn it up,
so they won't be able to chatter.'"
- Tony Iommi
Some things just happen. Like Black Sabbath carrying the flag of hard rock
and heavy metal from the beginning of 1970's. Tony Iommi doesn't have too many
fingers left but he just knows where the riffs come from.
In addition to magnificent music, there is Ozzy. A unique voice. A magnificent
character. Nobody knows, including himself, why he is still alive.
"I've made many statements about being sober, and one I can really say is... sobriety fucking sucks!"
- Ozzy Osbourne
In the latter part of the seventies Sabbath didn't produce too much good.
Is anything left with the closing lines from the title track of Never Say Die (1978)?
There's no need to have a reason
There's no need to wonder why
It's a part of me that tells you
Ahh don't you ever, don't ever say die
Never never, never say die again
After breaking with Ozzy, Black Sabbath recorded two excellent albums with
Dio. While Sabbath went down,
Ozzy rose up from god-knows-where and built a remarkable solo career.
