I've been most hooked in games that are realistic and require strategic and tactical skills. Perhaps the
first really original game I can remember was Elite, which I played with my friends' computers.
With my Atari ST I remember losing nights of 1989 with games like Sim City, Millennium 2.2.,
Test Drive, Player Manager, Falcon F-16 and Police Quest. Sierra's other adventure games and
Indianapolis 500 were among the first really good PC games of the time I can recall.
Then I got an own PC and went grazy with Sid Meier's latests: first Railroad Tycoon in 1990 and then
Civilzation the next year. Of all the games I've ever played those two have interested me the most.
They were released when I was at the height of my gaming activity. Civilization must still be the number
one. I played also a lot with simulators. Geoff Crammond's F1GP in 1991 meant that I learned every
instance of the curves of the Monaco formula one track. The last good game I remember playing awful
lot was Settlers released in 1993. After that I concentrated on writing my own games and experimenting
with other hobbyists' games like Slick's 'n Slides and Rally Sports.
Now I can find myself working with Office programs on the Windows. I have no games on the harddisk expect
for emulators. Boring? - Just real. However, I've kept up with my gaming hobby through emulators and buying
old computers. Of arcade emulator games I can recommend
Spacewar, Asteroids and Space Invaders. Maybe Pole Position also.
