He who refuses to take part in modern mediocrity will forever stand alone, an outcast.
He is the bringer of change. Changes that instill fear in all who go with fashion's flow.
Their power comes from others, not within. They are false!
The battle rages - choose your side.
Death to false metal!
- Excerpts from the booklet of Fighting the World (1987)
"You are basically formed by what your influences are and if you've got losers for influences,
you're going to have a hard time overcome that."
- Joey De Maio
Manowar is functional music. They have done probably more in explaining the spirit of heavy metal
than any other band. The brain and character of Manowar is Joey de Maio. Grown in Deep Purple and Sabbath,
De Maio is Manowar's bass player, spokesman, manager, song writer and even the producer.
"I only listen to people that have talent and that can make an original statement and can add to the art-form"
- Joey De Maio
To keep the band hot and rocking for more than twenty years requires a sense of strategy:
"The most important thing that any band or artist can do is to create a following of people who say,
'l like this because it's different and I like it just the way it is'. That means you're bound by
your own laws, not the laws of other people"
- Joey De Maio
When I'm hesitating in some difficult situation, I might just put a Manowar album in. Usually the
album is Louder than Hell (1996). Listen for a while and choose the option that makes change.
The attitude and message of their stuff is very clear. Repeat liners like "Stripes on a tiger
just don't wash away" and "For those who never try they are sure to fail" and you become very
confident in what you are doing.
"If you believe something is right, then go for it."
- Eric Adams
