Helsinki - Nordkapp all night long, fall 2000 |
I drove with my friend Esa Ranki in four days and three nights more than 3000 kilometres
from Helsinki to Nordkapp and back. Our motivation was simply to see Nordkapp,
the northest point of the European continent. We started early in the morning
from Sakarinkatu, in Helsinki. It was dark, we had a red italian car, and
a plastic bag full of 20 mark bills...

Our homebase near Saariselkä -- who enters from the pipe?

Reindeer are constant threat in Lapland

Driving takes its toll: time to get a swim somewhere in the nowhere

Enter Norway, no tolls or officials around

Target closing in, roads getting more curves and tunnels

Che pointing the way

Esa just goofing

Finally: the edge of Europe!

I was a bit disappointed not to get any closer...

...but Esa was alright

Here we go

On the way back, we had a night and this morning fog in Hammerfest

How to get motivation to drive back?

I tried to fish until insects took over

Sun is setting and so is our trip
