Sport Cars

Since I bought my first sports car a 1986 Corvette I've been really nuts to these ultimate pieces of human machinery. I don't think I'll ever since wanted to drive any other type of car. If you wish to know, before the Corvette I owned a couple of american classics. But right now these tree are on the top of my acquisition list:

  • Lotus Esprit
  • Porsche 928
  • Ferrari Testarossa
  • Esprit

I didn't have a special relationship with Esprit. Just those Bond movies, a model car when I was a kid and the usual. But heck, it was one pleasant sunday afternoon in Berkeley, CA, in April 2001. I was walking on the pavement when one white turbo passes through my eyes. At the very moment, I was hooked. A week from that I had one '88 for a test drive and interviewed the owner. Watched movies Pretty Woman and Basic Instinct. And here we are.

The car looks unbelievably cool -- and the basic design is from 1971! I've done research of getting myself one from Germany. The car is also very affordable for what it is. I'm probably settling with the 2nd generation V8 manufactured from 1998 onwards. Those go now for something like 30 000 EUR. Black could be a dominant color...

  • 928

Why 928? V8. Movie Scarface. "Shark". Grand Touring. The most expensive and fastest Porsche for its time, 928 is an easy choice. This car is almost a family car with 4 seats. Color must be dark metallic gray, blue or black. I think I'll settle down for the latest incarnation GTS, which was manufactured in 1992-95. The car is surprisingly undervalued for a classic. You can get a very decent GTS from Germany say for around 15 000 EUR!

  • Testarossa

The only Ferrari that connects my mind to "Ferrari" is the 80's Testarossa. I know the car is not comfortable for cruising or for almost anything but that's not the point. It looks so timeless. It has a V12. Don Johnson had a white one in Miami Vice. Well, maybe I change my mind when I test drive one for the first time. I have a requirement that I am capable of taking all out of its performance. Prices start from 40 000 EUR in Germany.
