Trance and Dance

Do you ever question your life
Do you ever wonder why
Do you ever see in your dreams
All the castles in the sky
[Ian van Dahl: Castles in the Sky]

Of all 'original' music played at discos and clubs I prefer trance. I must admit I'm always not 100% sure if some tune can be labeled as techno, house, dance, ambient, whatever. But so far I've found that the stuff I like the most; power, rhythm, passion and upbeat, is very close to trance. I guess I went into the deeper side of trance when I heard of Paul van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold. Most of the DJs that have name come from Britain, Benelux countries or Germany. They might have been playing for long times and found finally the right style that attracts the audience. No wonder radio play has followed.

For sure, I listen to the more mass-marketed dance also. Many dance DJs that get radio play are actually close to trance style. In the late 1990's to early 2000's artist like Faithless, SASH!, Darude and Ian van Dahl proved that one can break big with simple machine-made music with or without vocals. At clubs these radio edits are by definition further mixed and exploited.

Wonder if I could open my heart again (if I could, if I could, if I could)
Must be me why I feel like start again
[Paul van Dyk: Tell Me Why]

The worst thing with trance & dance scene is that many artists just can't surf on the wave. Styles and trends move forward so fast. Many artist are able to produce just one or two tunes that get wider play. Anyway, here goes some links to artist and other sources that seem to have something going on in spring 2002:
