I want shiny cars and dirty money
Lotsa rock and roll
I will live in fame and die in flames
I'm never gettin' old
This is how WASP started out with I wanna be somebody in the early eighties. Visual show against all that
was considered appropriate was the attraction and key to success. Blackie the bulldog voice eating blood and Chris
Holmes the madman just freaking out with his solo guitar. But behind all that fancy rock n' roll circus is
timeless music that was about to evolve and go on.
"Every record I've ever made I'm trying to reflect who I am at the moment.
Trying to determine what's happening in the market place, trendy, the flavor of the week,
is a very dangerous game to start playing."
- Blackie Lawless
I think Blackie Lawless is a great example of a succesful artist that has contributed a lot and been
able to carry on through different times and phases. He has an own style and courage to be honest.
"You'll attempt to take people with you on that lifelong journey. The only way you can do that is to allow them
inside your head. They can come in, take their shoes off, and walk around barefooted inside your head, to find out
what's there - whether it's good or it's bad... So if something is weighing heavily, or you feel passionate about
something, speak about it right now, it's important."
- Blackie Lawless
I'd vote the concept album The Crimson Idol (1992) into the all time top 5 of all records ever made. Maybe the
cover version of Zep's When the Levee Breaks tells what
it is all about. A kind of summary of all the things his mind had gathered so far.
"There is Rome, Italy, there's Tokyo, Japan, and Buenos Aires. There's real places that you have to go. Every
one of them represents at least one night of your life. It's a big wide world out there, and again, people who
a have singular mentality don't really think about anything going on outside their little area in the world."
- Blackie Lawless
And only those who stand within
Can hold the keys that let us in
But if the magic in us dies
Ooh then the souls within us cries
