Nike+iPod battery change

A major practical & eco problem with Nike+iPod kit is the sensor battery, which runs out typically within a year. It is not officially user replaceable, which does not mean anything really.

Take one: used Mora-knife and a small hammer to cut the sensor open. Some small plastic parts flew away. Not a prob. Next used a small screwdriver to chop the battery out. The model number turns out to be CR2032. It’s an ubiquitous one you can buy from any electronics / tech / camera shop for 1-5 euros…

Comrade, you have won the right to buy an iPhone!

Since I am locked-in to iPhones for various reasons, I went out to Lasipalatsi plaza in Helsinki tonight to grab my own as “one of the first in Europe.” But first I had to participate in a stupid “lottery” where everyone won. They had a stock of 200 new 16GB black iPhone 3Gs for the luckiest of those first 1000 people eligible to participate.

In the end there turned up just about 100 interested so everyone won. And the prize? The right to buy an iPhone! Yes, you heard it right comrades. I won the right to buy… and I did buy my phone…

There is no doubt that the official iPhone launch in the Nokialand flopped. I would actually like to know how many units they had to carry back to stores. More than 100?

Pics from the event here (Ville bought one, too).

First week without iPhone

It never came to my mind how difficult a life without an iPhone is.

Anticipating the next-gen iPhone I sold my old one on the local auctions site. I think I made a good deal and now have to wait for just a month for the new one to arrive. A month! That’s a long time when you are running a basic Nokia phone. Ok, I kind of like this old 6210 back from 2001 or so. Quick and effective for the stuff it does. This is the phone I once had for over two years or so.

But: no email, no web, no phone number catalogue (didn’t even want to learn how to convert). Actually quite difficult to use as an SMS device. No music, no youtube, no games, and not even weather reports! In short, I have used to have an iPhone in my pocket. I really use its features. A Nokia device simply does not cut it, and I believe this can be extended to most of their models. I feel very much disconnected without iPhone.

DJ Online rulez

Been running mighty DJ Online radio system on my home setup for a while now. This is the stuff my friend Pablo has been developing the last five years or so (I might even own some shares). The system simply pumps up the sound. Sucks high quality tagged oggs according to “taste”, sends them with little help from Airfoil to my Genelecs in the living room. This is a sort of a next-gen radio — for copyright reasons targeted first at public use — with tons of interactivity possibilities and a change to learn about new artists. Robyn singing now. Why didn’t I know this artist (by name) before? Guess I should use DJ Online exclusively now.

Blog update

Updated blog software from WordPress 1.5 (from 2005) to the latest version 2.5. Somehow a crazy spam worm had entered into my blog, probably from a security hole, and was destroying my posts one by one (inserting spam into the post text -> spammed posts were then automatically deleted…). In the end I lost just one or two of the most recent posts. I can only hope the new software keeps my blog stable for at least another three years.

Did also a slight update for the blog’s outlook. Kind of an own WordPress theme….
