Just go out and do it

Made the occasional track set at Eläintarha before lunch. First 5K warm-up, then 4 x 2000m in 6.50, 6.52, 6.51 and 6.40 (last lap 71 sec). 2 min breaks. Got some positive feedback already on the way from another athlete, but the best part came after the run. The silent guy behind his desk, probably a field manager or something, suddenly opened his chest. It went something like: “It was so good seeing you run like they never do these days anymore. You know they are drinking all the time, before any practice, after every harder attempt and so on. They come here to just shake their muscles – for fifteen minutes! – and then run a mere 100 meters. But your running, you were running distance, and it looked good, very good, you didn’t go out to pose. It makes me feel good to see someone just arrive and do the job, without any show.”

God damn it that old fox was right. The only thing you need is your stopwatch. Efficient and effective.

Last sunday the third and final 5000m of the season. Pretty good run in sneakers and little wind, from 1K to the finishing line alone. Time 16.10,16, 3K split was 9.37 and 3800m 12.16.
